A ground-breaking comedy co-operative based in North East England will take over an entire venue for the duration of the Edinburgh comedy festival - and in the words of one member “We’re unapologetic that our reason for doing so is our simple belief that acts in the North East of England deserve the same opportunities as everyone else in an often London-centric industry.”
Viz creators Simon and Chris Donald will become the first inductees into a permanent monument of the outstanding individuals and achievements in the history North East comedy at a red carpet celebration of the region’s entertainment heritage taking place next year at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House.
The event - described as “Like the Oscars but if it was a laugh and nobody got punched” - will formally launch a permanent North East Comedy Hall of Fame, at a location to be announced.
