Writer Graham Linehan has become increasingly vociferous on Twitter today following the news that his sitcom The Walshes has been axed.
The sitcom, created by sketch group Diet of Worms in collaboration with Linehan, ran for three episodes first on BBC4 and then on BBC2. It will not be returning, according to the BBC.
Beyond The Joke can exclusively reveal that comedy writer Graham Linehan will be taking part in the forthcoming Big Comedy Conference as one of the headline speakers on Saturday, November 29. The event, organised by the British Comedy Guide, will features talks and advice on how to get on in TV and radio comedy writing from some of the most influential figures in the industry.
Saddened to hear of the death of Roger Lloyd Pack from pancreatic cancer at the age of 69. He was a sitcom regular who will probably - and unfairly - be best remembered in years to come for standing next to Del Boy when he fell through the bar in Only Fools And Horses. He more recently also starred in the Vicar of Dibley, where his hangdog stupidity brightened up most episodes and made what could have been a simple cliched yokel character into something much deeper.
Update 14/9/13 – Good to see the first series of Count Arthur Strong getting a quick Saturday night repeat run at 7.30pm from tonight. It could be the perfect feet-up, cup-of-tea Dad's Army-type slot for it. Here's a review of the wonderfully nuanced but also enjoyably broad comedy from when it first went out earlier this year.
