The BBC preview information for the second series of House of Fools calls it an “acclaimed comedy”. I don’t remember it being that acclaimed beyond the loyal hardcore of R&M fans who love most of the work they do together. In fact there was even a question mark at one point over whether there would be a second series.
Is this a Golden Age of TV Comedy? There may not have been a landmark series such as I’m Alan Partridge or The Office or The Thick of It, but there have been a number of unmissable comedies from old stars and newcomers alike. So, after considerable stress and a lot of laughs, here is Beyond The Joke’s Top Ten TV comedies for 2014. Let the arguments commence…

House of Fools, penned by and starring Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, is one of three shows on the shortlist for Best Situation Comedy in the Writers Guild Awards, announced today. The other two nominees are Up The Women, written by Jessica Hynes and Him & Her, written by Stefan Golaszewski.
