Jen Brister
Specsavers recently launched the first ever comedy club in London to normalise eye symptoms in the over 40s. The show took place at the 'At Arms Length' club at Up The Creek in Greenwich and comedian/writer Jen Brister headlined.
Jen Brister’s critically-acclaimed show ‘The Optimist’ is to be released as a special on 21st of November 2023. Produced and distributed by 800 Pound Gorilla Media, the special will be available to watch on their website as part of a “name your own price” offer. This will also include a free digital audio album of Jen’s ‘Under Privilege’ comedy special. ‘The Optimist’ special will then be available on 800 Pound Gorilla Media’s Youtube Channel on 14th of December.
Following the success of the first series, the podcast Memory Lane returns for a second run.
In each episode Jen Brister and Kerry Godliman's guest comes armed with four photos from their life to talk about. These could be anything from their fifth birthday party, their first day at school, a drunken night at university, a wedding photo, a holiday photo... From there, who knows where the conversation takes them.
More comedians will be competing for Richard Osman's precious prizes this week as Ian Moore and Jen Brister take on Kelvin Fletcher and Dr Zoe Williams.
Ian Moore is a slick, impeccably well-dressed stand-up mod and also a successful novelist. He recently branched out into murder mystery territory with Death and Croissants, which sounds as if it might give Richard Osman a run for his money in the quirky sleuthing stakes. The TV rights have already been sold so things are looking good for Moore.
Yes, you read that right. Following the easing of lockdown restrictions to allow indoor performances that followed strict guidelines this online fundraiser allowed a hundred lucky comedy fans into the venue last Sunday. And following the success of that gig they will be letting a few more in this time on August 23. It's real comedy with a real audience inside a real venue. Almost like old times and certainly the best you can hope for at the moment. The line-up is pretty damn good too.
By compere and intrepid organiser Mark Watson’s own admission, this is not the perfect way to experience comedy. Parked in your car in the car park of Crystal Palace Football Club on the hottest day of the year.
Soho Theatre, one of the UK’s leading comedy producers and presenters, joins trail-blazing streaming platform NextUp in a new partnership to film and distribute a series of live comedy specials.
This marks the first time in the UK that a major comedy venue and an online service have teamed up to record and showcase full length stand-up shows.
The initial tranche of shows to be filmed are:
So many shows, so little time. Well actually so many shows, quite a lot of time. But still not long enough to do more than scratch the surface of comedy at the Fringe. I was at the Edinburgh Fringe 2019 for 23 days. And saw 91 shows. Not quite the most I’ve seen in a Fringe stint, but it may have been more. Some were free gigs with no tickets so I may not have made a note of them.
