Jon Holmes
In 2023, comedian and broadcaster Jon Holmes was diagnosed with prostate cancer – which came as a bit of a surprise because he was far too busy for all of that nonsense. After a very odd, intense, unexpected, ridiculous year, Jon realised that men don’t tend to talk openly about the cancer. So he decided he would, with other men who have been through it.
Jon Holmes has spoken up about being axed from Radio 4's The Now Show because it was felt the programme needed more "diversity".
This morning the Mail on Sunday ran a front page story with a picture of Holmes and the headline of: "BBC sacked me for being a white man."
The piece went on to discuss the fact that Holmes had been dropped because the show was being recast with “more women and diversity” . Fellow long-time contributor Mitch Benn was also dropped from the programme this week.
Jon Holmes has been dropped from BBC satire show The Now Show. Mitch Benn, who is best known for his musical numbers, is also leaving.
Holmes commented on the news on Twitter, writing: "Sad to announce I've been axed from as 'we want to recast with more women and diversity' Tsk. And I didn't even punch a producer."
