Katherine Ryan
After a short, snappy appearance from Shazia Mirza – “I won’t stay long, I’m being deported in 20 minutes” – Katherine Ryan came on sporting a flowery headdress and some attitude for Latitude. Her boyfriend recently dumped her by text, she explained, tossing in the first of many Pokemon Go references I expect I’ll be hearing over the next few months.
Nobody seems to have told the person that did the opening credits for this comedy version of Question Time that it is about the EU. Instead subject titles such as “relationships” and “money” rolled past as if our host, serial cynic Jack Dee, was any old agony aunt.
Katherine Ryan has added even more dates to her 2016 Kathbum tour due to phenomenal demand. These new dates start from April 14 at the Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre in Newcastle and end on May 21 at the Eventim Apollo in London. Tickets for the extra dates go on sale at 10am on Friday January 22 here.
Rob Delaney, Milton Jones and Katherine Ryan have been confirmed as three of the stand-up stars booked to appear on the alternative stages at the Reading and Leeds Festivals over the weekend of August 28 - 30. The three stars will be appearing at both events.
ITV has commissioned STV Productions, with Group M Entertainment, to make a new ITV2 comedy panel show called Safeword.
So just when you thought every last comic pip had been squeezed out of the election here comes Frankie Boyle. The too-hot-for-mainstream-TV Scot is joined by the so-hot-they-are-on-everything twosome of Sara Pascoe and Katherine Ryan for this iPlayer discussion following the success of their previous online outing, Referendum Autopsy.
The Barclaycard British Summer Time Festival in Hyde Park has announced its comedy line-up for June 22 – 25.
Producer David Johnson has written that he is banning Telegraph comedy critics from his upcoming gigs. This follows the publication of the five "best jokes" at the recent Laughing Point charity gig on the Telegraph website.
Is the BBC so scared of Frankie Boyle offending viewers that they have banished him to iPlayer for this one-off post-mortem? Or have they decided that now that the Scottish Referendum is done and dusted not enough people are interested in the subject to warrant putting this out in the traditional way? Or maybe it’s a sneaky plan to drive viewers online. I’d have certainly thought this semi-serious talking shop deserved to be aired on Scottish television.
I thought I had the best job in the world. And then I met Tania Harrison. Tania is head of arts and comedy at Festival Republic, the UK’s leading festival and event promoter. One of her jobs is to organise the comedy for the upcoming Latitude Festival, which runs from July 17 - 20. This year’s headliners, Kevin Bridges, Simon Amstell and Dara O’Briain, really do need no introduction. Nor do Al Murray, Milton Jones, Sara Pascoe and Josie Long.
