Romesh Ranganathan
Report by Claire Smith.
Romesh Ranganathan was on the point of giving up comedy after the death of his father, he told an audience at Leicester Comedy Festival.
Romesh Ranganathan is to record a sitcom pilot for BBC Radio 2 inspired by his own life.
Romesh, being recorded in London at the BBC Radio Theatre on January 20, is a family sitcom charting the struggles of Romesh and his wife Kate as they try to get through life with two kids in Crawley.
In this pilot episode they are invited to their school reunion, where Romesh is forced to confront his old bully, Steve Johnson.

Here's an interview I did with Romesh Ranganathan for the Evening Standard. Despite what he might seem like onscreen in the flesh Ranganathan is a lovely bloke and easy to chat to. Which is not to say that his perma-grumpy persona on Asian Provocateur is faked. I'm sure he has his bad days like the rest of us. Except that unlike the rest of us when he has a bad day he is very, very funny.
One of the television joys in 2015 was seeing Romesh Ranganathan looking pissed off in the first series of Asian Provocateur when he tracked down his Sri Lankan relatives. Now there is the chance to see him looking pissed off again in the second series in which he tracks down his North American relatives. And he has even more to be pissed off about, because this time his eccentric, nagging mother Shanthi has come along for the ride.
Comedian Romesh Ranganathan has revealed how he stripped down to his underwear for the second series of Asian Provocateur.
In the follow-up to the acclaimed first series he travels across North America with his mother Shanthi meeting relatives and exploring different cultures. At one point he had to walk through Mexican woods to find his ‘spirit animal’.
Nobody seems to have told the person that did the opening credits for this comedy version of Question Time that it is about the EU. Instead subject titles such as “relationships” and “money” rolled past as if our host, serial cynic Jack Dee, was any old agony aunt.
Romesh Ranganathan has added a fourth show at Eventim Apollo this autumn due to phenomenal demand.
Romesh Ranganathan has extended the autumn leg of his UK tour due to phenomenal demand.
