The first thing that gig-less comedians did after lockdown was put live shows online. The second was launch a podcast. But television hasn’t been far behind, using the format of quickfire, viral-friendly sketches filmed at home and observing social distancing. The BBC launches their rapid response series Comedians: Home Alone on BBC Two on June 1 at 10.15pm, but they have been pipped at the post by E4’s Remote Comedy From the Paddock.
Luke Kempner will be streaming live from his home tonight along with comedians Rosie Jones, Suzi Ruffell and Russell Kane.
The event will take place on Thursday 14th May 2020 at 8pm (BST) and will be in aid of the Coppafeel breast cancer charity, which creates awareness amongst young people, with the aim to instill a new healthy habit that could one day save a life.
Broadcasting regulator Ofcom has received complaints about a joke about Greta Thunberg told by comedian Rosie Jones on the Last Leg's New Year's Eve Special on Channel 4.
On the show, fronted by Adam Hills, Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker, Jones said: "Greta's amazing and what she's doing is brilliant. But don't do it now. She needs to live a little, she's only 16. She should be doing two things - drinking Lambrini and getting fingered."
The Greenwich Comedy Festival always feels like the last laugh of summer to me. The weather is still balmy when you arrive – if you are lucky – but as the gigs are in a large marquee it marks the moment when my big coat is taken out of the wardrobe and dusted off. But enough about my sartorial choices, is the comedy any good?
