News: Free Fringe Opens Up To Virtual Shows

While applications are still open for in-person shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, many performers won’t make it to Edinburgh this year.

News: Free Fringe Crowdfunding Campaign And Global Gigs

PBH's* Free Fringe will return to Edinburgh in 2018 and is looking for your support. The Free Fringe is free for performers and free for the audience (although they can chip in if they like the show). Performers pay nothing to be part of the Free Fringe. No registration fees, no hire fees, no box office split. The Free Fringe wants to support artists no matter what their financial situation. This year there will be over 9,000 Free Fringe performances ranging from comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret or spoken word. All for free.

News: Laughing Horse Festivals Launches Free Edinburgh Fringe Festival Programme

Laughing Horse Festivals has announced its 2017 Free Edinburgh Fringe Festival line-up. There are 392 shows spread across 37 performance spaces in 23 venues - its largest ever programme.

There will be 8,014 performances from July 30th to August 27th, with the first four days being the pre-Fringe Children’s Festival, followed by the full run of shows from August 3rd.

It has been reported that legendary Edinburgh venue The Gilded Balloon is to take over the Counting House venue this year.

News: Performer Pulls Out Of Free Fringe In Protest

Update: Following the publication of this story Mark Davison has been offered a 9pm slot by Just The Tonic boss Darrell Martin, so he will be appearing in Edinburgh this summer after all. He will be at the Up The Road venue. There is no ticketing or entry fee, just the usual request for a donation at the end. "He's not charging me for the room but will take a percentage of my bucket. It's a good deal and I'm very happy (and relieved) to have accepted it," says Davison.

News Update: Free Fringe Sets Deadline For Applications

Free Fringe Founder Peter Buckley Hill has now posted the following on the Facebook Comedy Forum and the Chortle Forum. He is still maintaining that he and not Freestival has the rights to programme Cowgatehead this August and is offering those who are booked with Freestival the chance to apply for slots with Free Fringe by this Friday.

News: Question Mark Over Latest Cowgatehead Solution?

Update 25/5: Following our report earlier today that Freestival had issued a statement proposing a compromise solution, Peter Buckley Hill's Free Fringe has now replied with this, which may put that option in jeopardy. This response, from PBHFF venues coordinator Frank Galbraith, is as follows:
