A new portrait of Edmund Blackadder was secretly installed overnight at Audley End House to mark the 40th anniversary of the beloved TV series.
Comedy channel Gold will dedicate the month of June to celebrating the much-loved comedy series Blackadder, as the iconic show celebrates its 40th anniversary on June 15th.
As part of the celebrations Gold has commissioned two brand new UKTV Originals, including Blackadder: The Lost Pilot (1x 80'), produced by Red Sauce, and Blackadder: A Cunning Story (1x120') produced by Tiger Aspect (a Banijay UK company).

In an interview with the Radio Times he was asked if his character might return and he said it “certainly” wasn’t “impossible”.
Anyone hoping for a new series of Blackadder reuniting the key original cast members may have to brace themselves for a disappointment.

Actor Peter Benson, who appeared in Heartbeat and the first Blackadder has died. He was 75 and passed away after a short illness.
Benson played funeral director Bernie Scripps in 18 series of nostalgic ITV drama Heartbeat and he also played Henry Tudor, aka Henry II, in the first Blackadder.
He also coincidentally played Henry VI in a BBC adaption of Shakespeare's play in 1983 and more recently appeared in Casualty.
For those armchair critics that have been constantly comparing Ben Elton’s Upstart Crow to Blackadder there was a delicious surprise in the final episode featuring Gabrielle Glaister from his old series which made it clear that Elton knew the similarities were there when he first put quill to paper to write this comic celebration of the bard.
