The BBC has commissioned Small Prophets, a new comedy created, written and directed by BAFTA-winning Mackenzie Crook (Detectorists, Worzel Gummidge) and produced by BAFTA-winning Gill Isles (Car Share, Alma’s Not Normal), from Treasure Trove Productions and Blue House Productions. The series is planned to launch on iPlayer and BBC Two in early February 2026.

Filming begins next month on the second series of Bridget Christie’s critically acclaimed, BAFTA and RTS-nominated comedy hit, The Change, produced by Expectation, and will be directed by Mackenzie Crook (Detectorists, The Office, Pirates of the Caribbean).
This interview first appeared in The Times in 2009. At the time Mackenzie Crook was about to appear at the Royal Court Theatre in Jerusalem, which went on to scoop endless awards and be acclaimed as one of the greatest plays in recent years. You could certainly say that Crook is versatile without fear of a law suit landing on your desk. From Pirates of the Caribbean to The Office he has cornered the market in scrawny, memorable characters, but he always, no pun intended, adds flesh to their bones.
