It was recently announced that the fifth series of Ghosts, one of the BBC's biggest comedy hits in recent years, will be the final series. It will air this september, the same month that the book is published.
Filming has finished on the fifth series of Ghosts which today has been confirmed as the last. The team behind the smash-hit show have decided that after five series it’s time to wave goodbye to the inhabitants of Button House and focus on new projects.
Watch the Comic Relief/Red Nose Day Ghosts clip in which pop icon Kylie Minogue visits Button house and reveals that following a bang on the head she can see ghosts. Kylie and her manager (played by Tanya Moodie) arrive at Button House to see if it's a suitable concert venue and the ghosts get the shock of their (after) lives.

Following the destruction of their B&B (and main income) in the gatehouse fire, Alison (Charlotte Ritchie) and Mike (Kiell Smith-Bynoe) begin exploring other means of making ends meet and contemplate a new chapter that could have a huge effect on the Ghosts’ (after) lives.
The Ghosts, touched by Alison’s thoughtful generosity, are inspired to give her a special Christmas present in return – but with Alison due back in a matter of hours, can they pull off their ambitious plan in time? Mike’s loaded Tupperware comes in handy when their journey hits a bump in the road, forcing them to reassess their Christmas day plans. And Kitty gets her moment in the spotlight thanks to a much-needed pep talk from a surprising source.
The BBC has released all 18 episodes of the first series of the American version of Ghosts including the pilot.
The set-up stays reasonably close to the original: "A couple inherit a crumbling mansion - and a gaggle of ghouls, from a saucy 1920s lounge singer to a 1960s hippy. It's a live-in nightmare!"
For a series featuring a lot of historical characters Ghosts doesn't half have a lot of topical references. Particularly this week. I'd barely settled down to watch it when there was a discussion about rising energy prices and the cost of heating Button Hall.
Slightly awkward exchange early on in the first episode of the fourth series of Ghosts. The spooky residents of Button Hall are boasting about famous people they've met in the past and while most of them namecheck people from history, Julian Fawcett MP, played by Simon Farnaby, says he has met the Queen, who was presumably very much alive when the episode was filmed. Ironically, of course, Farnaby actually has met the Queen. He played a footman/butler splashed with an eclair in that now iconic Paddington sketch.
