Idris Elba
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced that Idris Elba OBE will receive the BAFTA Special Award, in recognition of his exceptional career and his commitment to championing diversity and new talent in the industry. The actor, writer and producer will receive the accolade at this month’s Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards, broadcast at 19:00 BST on BBC One on Friday 31 July and hosted by Richard Ayoade.
It's more likely that when you think of Idris Elba these days you think of him being rumoured to be the next James Bond than as a comedy star. If he is in the running for 007 it is for his hard man roles in shows such as Luther than for his soft-hearted role in this returning comedy loosely based on Elba's own East End 1980s childhood.
Idris Elba and Bill Bailey are set to return in a second series of their award-winning, top-rated comedy In The Long Run.
The series will continue to follow the adventures of Walter, Agnes, Valentine and their neighbours Bagpipes and Kirsty.
In The Long Run, created and produced by Idris Elba of Green Door Pictures and produced with Gina Carter of Sprout Pictures, is loosely based on Elba’s own childhood and explores life growing up on an estate in 1980s London.
Actor Idris Elba is set to front a new comedy for Netflix.
Write about what you know they say. Or failing that get some writers in to write about what you know. In The Long Run, set on a London council estate in the 1980s is based on the childhood of its star Idris Elba. And it is pretty good.
