Interview: James Acaster on Bake Off Stand Up To Cancer

James Acaster talks – briefly – about The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer. I think they might have caught him when he had other things on his mind.

Can you bake?

No I cannot.

Who taught you?

My mother and sister tried to.

What is your own personal signature dish?

TV Review: Hypothetical, Dave

Dave has a great track record at coming up with off-the-wall comedy shows, from Dave Gorman's Modern Life Is Goodish to, inevitably, Taskmaster (which is going to be mentioned a lot in this piece). Hypothetical is an interesting hybrid. It's as formulaic as any BBC panel show – and features a lot of the same people – but at the same time it comes to the chummy game show template from a distinctly sideways angle.

Although just to reassure you that I'm not completely consumed by comedy five nights a week, around 100 of those were in August in Edinburgh. So here's my personal favourites.

2018 Review: Top Comedy Specials 2018

TV comedy specials are like arseholes. Everyone has one. Well, not quite everyone, but it has certainly felt that way recently with Netflix dropping standup shows as if they are going out of style. The streaming network has lots more to come in the new year and I've got to come clean, it is getting hard to keep up with them. For example, the recent Ellen DeGeneres special might have featured in the chart below – except that I haven't had a chance to watch it yet. Maybe it will appear in next year's chart.
