Johnny Vegas
A movie version of Johnny Vegas's best-selling autobiography Being Johnny Vegas is being developed.
The film, which Vegas is hoping to direct himself, will chart the comedian's early life when he briefly considered joining the priesthood. Vegas would not be able to play himself and the project has not reached the casting stage yet, but speaking at the Sky Cat Laughs Festival in Kilkenny the Benidorm star joked that they would have to find someone young who "drank cider" and "fought geese".
Musical comedian Kate Lucas has won this year's hotly contested Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year competition. The final was held this evening (Saturday) at the Y Theatre as part of Dave's Leicester Comedy Festival. Lucas wins £1000 and a bottle of champagane and, according to host Rob Rouse, the Sainsburys bag it came in. Phil Jerrod was second and Mark Silcox was third.
I interviewed Michael Smiley last week. If you don't know the name you will certainly know the face. And if you don't that's him on the left. This year Smiley has appeared in straight acting roles in, among other things, Luther, Utopia, Ambassadors and A Field In England. Comedy fans with longer memories will, of course, know him as Tyres, the raving cycle courier in Spaced.
