Beaumont and Maureen Lipman will star in a third series of the acclaimed sitcom about a mother and daughter desperately trying to make ends meet in the cutthroat world of hairdressing in the North East of England.
Best known for her BBC Radio 4 comedy To Hull and Back, Beaumont takes viewers on a whistle-stop tour of her home city, from the Old Town to the marina, as she explores what makes the city unique.
You could say that Lucy Beaumont is having a good year. She recently got engaged to Jon Richardson and she picked up a Foster’s Award Best Newcomer nomination for her full-length Edinburgh Fringe debut, We Can Twerk It Out. Funnily Jon Richardson was sitting next to me when I saw the show back in August. Maybe he was there every day. And the funnier thing is that part of the show is about Beaumont’s hunt for her perfect man, when all along he was sitting three rows back in a tin hut in Scotland.
I heard recently that a rising comedy star had split up with her boyfriend, a fellow comedian. Nothing unusual about that, you might say. Relationships sadly come and go. But it did strike me as unusual because at the moment stand-ups seem to be doing a lot more coupling than consciously uncoupling.
