matt berry
The third instalment in Matt Berry’s online series finds our seductive-toned narrator guiding us through his version of the history of summer holidays. Or to be more precise, the “UKAY summer holiday” as Berry deliciously phrases it.
The next film in the iPlayer series Matt Berry Does...has been revealed. It is Matt Berry Does...Summer Holidays.
The short film, co-written by Bob Mortimer and produced by Mortimer's company Pett Productions, will be released online on July 26. It follows the online success of the first two spoof documentaries, Matt Berry Does...The Boat Race and Matt Berry Does...Father's Day.
Matt Berry, the star of C4 comedy Toast of London, is to tour the UK later this year with his band the Maypoles.
Berry's comedy career has recently overtaken his musical career. As well as fronting Toast of London, which returns to C4 in the autumn, he appeared as Beef in House of Fools with Vic and Bob. He has also been commissioned by the BBC to make a series of online comedies and has so far looked at The Boat Race and Father's Day.
Following the success of Matt Berry doing the Boat Race, the second instalment in this six-part series finds the undisputed king of the striking vocal tone tackling the subject of Father’s Day. There is only really one reason to listen to this and that’s to hear the way Berry strings out the phrase “Youkay Daddy” over and over again. It will make you laugh so much the BBC should issue a disclaimer in case of any damage to internal organs.
Matt Berry was the winner of Best Male Performance in a Comedy Programme at the Bafta TV Awards tonight for his performance in Toast of London, while Jessica Hynes won Best Female Performance for her role in W1A.
Ant & Dec won Best Entertainment Performance for Saturday Night Takeaway while The Detectorists, starring Mackenzie Crook and Toby Jones, won Best Scripted Comedy and Graham Norton won Best Comedy and Comedy Entertainment Programme for his BBC1 chat show. A special award went to writer Clive James.
It’s one of those things where you go “this is so brilliant why didn’t they do it earlier?”. Matt Berry has been pretty famous in a culty way for his booming matinee idol voice ever since he played actor Todd Rivers in Garth Marenghi’s Dark Place. So it was surely only natural that the BBC would pick him to do a six-part online series of spoof mini-documentaries.
On 5 April, Matt Berry kicks off his brand new topical comedy series Matt Berry Does… for iPlayer, with Matt Berry Does..
I don’t know if Matt Berry has ever done the voiceover for a real wildlife documentary but, boy would it liven them up if he was given free reign by the nature department’s Clem Fandangos. Following the success of Berry’s previous comedic short, Lone Wolf, he is on more romantic ground with this Valentine’s Day follow-up, Wild Love, looking at nature’s mating rituals. Mostly brightly coloured birds and frogs doing what comes naturally.
Toast of London is to return for a third series. It has been announced today that the C4 sitcom starring Matt Berry as hapless actor and voiceover merchant Steven Toast has been recommissioned.
Channel 4’s Comedy Head Phil Clarke paid tribute to the quirky comedy which started out as a one-off episode: "Channel 4 has always backed original comedy, the type of shows you wouldn't find anywhere else, and Toast of London represents a significant new chapter in that story, and in our comedy heritage."
Matt Berry, currently riding high with his sitcom Toast of London on C4, is to perform a one-off concert at The Forum, Kentish Town on Friday, 13 February, 2015.
