A few days ago I had a stab at suggesting what I thought should be on the main Edinburgh Comedy Awards Best Show List. As the Edinburgh Fringe tips over into the second half I thought I'd have a crack at picking out potential Best Newcomer nominees. Sarah Keyworth has been awarded a Herald Angel Award for her debut show Dark Horse.
The Nottingham-born rising star’s new show at the Pleasance is a semi-autobiographical tale about discovering her own sexuality and gender identity. Exploring how young girls are raised and the expectations placed on them, the show is an hour of honest hilarity and social interrogation.
The 99 Club Bursary Awards for 2018 have been announced following a showcase final at the comedy club in London compered by Kiri Pritchard-McLean with a headline set by last year's bursary winner Lauren Pattison.
The two bursary winners are Sarah Keyworth and Catherine Bohart, who both receive £500 to help fund their Edinburgh Fringe shows. The standard of entrants was so high the judges gave additional £100 awards to the other finalists Olga Koch, Adele Cliff and Jenan Younis.
