Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Tez Ilyas

Tez Ilyas is definitely a comedian with a difference. There aren't many stand-ups out there with the manner and patter of a prime-time entertainer and the material and passion of a hard hitting satirist. The Blackburn comic successfully manages to pull together two very different styles, sweetening his political pill with a smile and a winning punchline. You may have caught him on Radio 4's Tez Talks or The Now Show or on television on Live from the BBC, Mock The Week, The Last Leg or Man Like Mobeen. Now see him live.

Teztify is Tez Ilyas’ third stand-up show. His previous two, TEZ Talks and Made in Britain, both garnered critical acclaim. Teztify is no different. It’s a spectacularly powerful, provocative and brilliantly funny hour of topical stand up from a rising star of comedy.

Live Review: Sara Pascoe, Jordan Brookes, Tez Ilyas, Kiri Pritchard-McLean, The MCT at Alleyn's, SE22

"Hello, I am your scumbag for the evening." Skilful compere Kiri Pritchard-McLean set the tone for this gig with her very first salvo. For comedians used to dodging the heckles and inflatable cocks at stag and hen dos on a Saturday night this new monthly gig must be a delight. It takes place in a private school in Dulwich in a state-of-the-art theatre that puts a lot of Fringe venues to shame. The audience is receptive and polite, though luckily not too polite to laugh in all the right places.
