Not laughing apparently causes a condition known as “bum grape”. Well, it does if I heard skilful Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year host Rob Rouse correctly. Not much chance of graping of the bum at this year’s competition though, with eight consistently comical acts hoping to follow in the illustrious footsteps of previous winners such as Johnny Vegas and Jason Manford.
Tom Little from Cumbria has been crowned Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year tonight at Dave's Leicester Comedy Festival. Little, who is now based in Salford, was chosen by the judges as the winner and collects the £1000 prize. Second place went to Hove-based Norwegian stand-up Ingrid Dahle. It had been a particularly stressful occasion in the run-up for Dahle because her family booked flights to the UK and accommodation in Leicester and then discovered that the show at the Y Theatre was sold out.
The finalists for the BBC Radio New Comedy Awards have been confirmed. They are Thomas Ward, Lost Voice Guy, Tom Little, Brennan Reece, Hari Sriskantha and Amir Khoshsokhan.
