Tony Blair
Harry Hill and Steve Brown have previous when it comes to penning unusual musicals. They were responsible for the X Factor spoof I Can't Sing. There was nothing wrong with the production but it maybe over-ambitiously had to fill the London Palladium every night. So sensibly they've gone back to basics and are premiering this new satirical outing - the clue is in the title – at the 200-seater Park Theatre.
Comedian and singer Charlie Baker has been announced as the titular role in Tony [The Tony Blair Rock Opera]. Baker has exercised his comedy chops on shows The Last Leg, Harry Hill’s Tea Time, Comedy Central at the Comedy Store, The Great British Bake-Off: An Extra Slice, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Edinburgh Comedy Fest Live, The Dog Ate My Homework and Channel 4’s Comedy Gala.
Harry Hill is writing a musical about Tony Blair*.
Tony! is set to run at the Turbine Theatre in London from February 4 - 6.
Hill is working on the show with his regular collaborator Steve Brown. They previously worked together on I Can't Sing, the musical about X Factor that ran in the West End, at the London Palladium in 2014.
This new project is described as follows:
Former Prime Minister Tony Blair will appear alongside The Last Leg hosts Adam Hills, Alex Brooker and Josh Widdicombe as part of The Last Leg: Re-United Kingdom, a two hour special live programme in the memory of MP Jo Cox a year on from her death.
