Black Mirror
Comedian Rob Delaney is one of the stars of the new series of Black Mirror.
Expect the unexpected. The long-awaited return of Charlie Brooker’s dark, satirical anthology series which reinvents itself with each new episode. The sixth season of Black Mirror is the most unpredictable, unclassifiable and unexpected yet.
While I was writing this review this morning a friend whatsapped me to ask if I'd already seen the new Black Mirror, entitled Bandersnatch. There was only one reply: "I'm not sure". Having sat through around 90 minutes of Charlie Brooker's latest dystopian drama I can't say for certain if what I've seen matches up to what others might have seen.
Typical. You wait ages for an anthology series of twisted one-offs and then two come along at the same time. Inside No. 9 kicks off on BBC2 on January 2 but before then the entire boxed set of Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror has just come out on Netflix. You'd better clear those diaries for some serious viewing through your fingers.
Update: The new series will be available from Netflix from Friday 29 December.
The episode titles and cast have been revealed for the fourth series of Black Mirror, which will air on Netflix later this year. The line-up features a mix of British and American actors including Maxine Peake and Andrea Riseborough. Film star Jodie Foster will direct an episode entitled Arkangel.
Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror is to become a book.
There was a bit of a Facebook hoo-ha about my review of the first instalment of Charlie Brooker's new Netflix series because I said it wasn't funny enough. Maybe the comments had a point. While there were a few warped witticisms in the first tale Nosedive, the next self-contained story, Playtest, is truly the stuff of dystopian nightmares.
Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong have carved out a pretty nifty niche for themselves as C4's top-notch comedy writers with Peep Show and Fresh Meat. In case you've been living under a stone without access to the internet for the last week their latest project for the channel is a bit of a departure. Babylon, directed by Danny Boyle, is a one-off feature-length comedy-drama following a day in the life of a cross-section of London cops.
