BBC New Comedy Awards Transmission Date Announced And Most Of The Finalists Revealed

The search is almost over to find the winner of the prestigious BBC New Comedy Awards 2024. From over 1,000 entries, 30 fresh new comedians from across the UK were whittled down to just six by a judging panel, led by Head Judge Babatunde Aléshé, to compete in the grand final at the iconic Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham.

All-Star Line-Up Gathers For Charity Event

The UK Live Comedy Association (LCA) is hosting a series of membership meetings to update members on work that has taken place throughout 2024 and that planned for the future.  The meetings, which will take place online and in person, will include detail from the UK live comedy survey which demonstrated the sector contributes over £1billion to the economy.

Nottingham Comedy Festival Returns

Next Friday sees the return of the Nottingham Comedy Festival. Taking place between Friday 1st to Sunday 10th November this is the 16th annual Comedy Festival brings together a wide selection of fantastic acts.

10 days of comedy across 18 venues. Over 130 comedians are bringing their shows to give us all some light hearted fun. From stand-up, improvisation, sketch shows, alternative comedy to musical comedy and podcasts.

UK Dates For US Star Atsuko Okatsuka

Asian American comedian Atsuko Okatsuka has announced the UK leg of her global comedy tour with three dates this February at the O2 Academy Glasgow on 20th, the Manchester Academy on 21st and London’s Eventim Apollo on 22nd.  This follows the huge success of her HBO special ‘The Intruder’, directed by Tig Notaro, which will be available to watch on Sky UK starting in December. ‘The Full Grown’ is her first comedy tour and has already performed to sold out theatres in 56 cities in 12 countries so far.

The ComediHa! Group And Subsidiaries Become Just for Entertainment Group

Sylvain Parent-Bédard, President and Founder of ComediHa! and the new owner of Just For Laughs (acquired in June 2024) has announced that ComediHa! Fest-Québec will now operate under the Just For Laughs Festival - Quebec brand. This marks a new era for the comedy event in the city, where the head office of the Quebec entrepreneur’s new group is based.

BBC Radio To Launch New Friday Night Topical Comedy The Naked Week

Starting on 29th November, comedy fans will be able to enjoy a new addition to Radio 4’s Friday Night Comedy lineup: The Naked Week, presented by podcast host and satirist Andrew Hunter Murray and co-written and produced by The Skewer’s Jon Holmes.  
The Naked Week is a fresh way of dressing the week’s news in the altogether and parading it around for everyone to laugh at.

New Comedy Shorts From BBC Northern Ireland

BBC Northern Ireland has commissioned five new comedy shorts from Nice One Productions.

They will debut on October 7, as part of its on-going commitment to develop and nurture new comedy acting, writing and production talent.

The shorts will be available in their entirety on BBC iPlayer from Monday 7 October at 6am, and weekly on BBC One Northern Ireland from October 7 at 11.35pm.
