West End Comedy Club Expands

London’s newest comedy club has announced they are doubling their number of shows - adding previews on a Monday as well as an early and late show on a Thursday from 24 March.
 
The West End Comedy Club has been running on a Tuesday and Wednesday night since August 2021.

Earlier this week I was checking my diary to see what comedy gigs were coming up later this month. Before Christmas a lot of shows had been cancelled or postponed but January still looked pretty busy so I was very excited about the prospect of seeing some top quality stand-up.

New Comedies from BBC Northern Ireland

BBC Northern Ireland is to launch a range of original and returning comedy content.

New to BBC One Northern Ireland will be the comedy sketch show Dry Your Eyes, on Monday 10 January on BBC One Northern Ireland at 10.35pm.

Produced by the Hole in the Wall Gang, Dry Your Eyes showcases an up-and-coming cast of actors and writers fresh to our screens.

Live Comedy Association Sends Letter to Government Asking For Support For Comedy Industry

The Live Comedy Association, the organisation set up to support the comedy industry, has sent an open letter to the Tory Government asking them to support the comedy industry during the latest Covid crisis. They are asking for immediate financial support for both individuals and organisations before Christmas to ensure that the UK’s world-leading live comedy industry is able to survive.

Leicester Square Theatre New Comedian of the Year – Results

The final has taken place new of Leicester Square Theatre's annual New Comedian of the Year.

Over 300 acts entered Leicester Square Theatre‘s hunt for the best new acts in the country. Now in it’s 12th year previous winners and finalists include Rob Beckett, Rachel Parris, Dane Baptiste, Sofie Hagen, Tim Renkow, Bilal Zafar and Tez Ilyas.

Fifteen stand-ups competed in the final that was compered by Mick Ferry. The last winner - David Eagle, back in 2019 – did a set too before the results were announced.

Channel 4 Appoints Digital Commissioner For Comedy

Channel 4 has appointed Charlie Hyland as Digital Commissioner focused on comedy, reporting into Head of Digital Commissioning, Sacha Khari. Hyland was most recently Series Producer on E4 shows, Pete and Sam’s Reality News and Married at First Sight UK Spin off show, Afters, as well as Series Development Producer on, Haks World for the BBC.

British Comedian Of The Year Finalists Announced

The finalists have been announced for the British Comedian of the Year.

After over 1000 acts applied and 150 comedians competed in live heats and semi-finals around the country, the line-up will be performing to win the prize of £10,001 at the Comedy Store on November 24. The compere will be Cally Beaton.
