News: Major New Venue Reopens

Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) is making a major move into comedy as it re-opens the historic North East venue, Stockton Globe.
 
The multi-million pound refurbishment, funded by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, will see ATG utilise its network of the world’s best talent, producers and promoters, to bring the biggest names in comedy and music back to the venue in the first time in over 40 years.

Comedy clubs across the UK, including the Comedy Store and the Frog & Bucket in Manchester, are uniting to raise money for homeless charities next week.

The Homeless support project is an initiative created by Leigh-based comedian, Lindsey Davies.

News: Free Public Discussion on the Nature of Humour

The Centre for Comedy Studies Research (CCSR) is staging an event to discuss the nature of humour. Feeling Funny, Being Human will explore what humour tells us about being human, whether we are born with humour and whether animals have a sense of humour.

The event is part of the Being Human: A Festival of the Humanities at Brunel University, London and will take place on Friday, November 21 from 4pm-7pm.

I don't think he ever visited the Comedy Pub just off Leicester Square, but if he had popped in on Friday night to see the Piccadilly Comedy Club New Comedian of 2013 Final he would have seen eight newish stand-ups taking their first steps on a journey which they probably hope will end with fame, critical acclaim and a tax bill that would make Jimmy Carr squirm.
