Dad’s Army fans have expressed their surprise after a TV screening of the 1971 movie spin-off of the hit TV series featured a warning about language before it was broadcast on Saturday night.
According to a BBC source the warning was because of the use of the phrase 'fuzzy wuzzy' - one of the phrases Lance Corporal Jones, played by Clive Dunn, had a habit of using.
Britain's favourite sitcom, Dad's Army ran for eighty episodes over nearly ten years and is rarely far from our screens - but three of those episodes were lost many years ago in cost-saving archive purges and haven't been seen since 1969. Now, using Jimmy Perry and David Croft's original scripts, those three episodes were faithfully recreatedby Mercury Productions for UKTV’s Gold channel to mark the 50th anniversary of their original broadcast.

The first image has been released of the new cast of Dad's Army.
The Gold TV Channel is remaking three episodes from the 1960s that are no longer available, The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Walker, A Stripe for Frazer and Under Fire. The tapes were wiped but the original scripts by Jimmy Perry and David Croft still exist. The new episodes will be broadcast later this year.
Kevin R. McNally, Robert Bathurst and Bernard Cribbins are set to star in Gold’s remake of Dad’s Army: The Lost Episodes alongside Kevin Eldon, Mathew Horne, David Hayman and Tom Rosenthal.
McNally (Pirates of the Caribbean, Designated Survivor) will be heading up the platoon as Captain Mainwaring, with Bathurst (Cold Feet, Toast of London) following suit as Sergeant Wilson and Cribbins (Doctor Who) stepping into the role of mild-mannered Private Godfrey.
Lost episodes of classic sitcom Dad's Army are to be remade. UKTV has commissioned Mercury Productions, working very closely with the Estates of the original writers, Jimmy Perry and David Croft, to exclusively recreate three episodes of Dad’s Army that haven’t been seen on television since they were first broadcast in 1969.
UKTV has commissioned a brand-new four-part retrospective, Saluting Dad’s Army, for comedy channel Gold. This series is produced by Mercury Productions and coincides with the 50th anniversary of the much-loved series.
