News: Irish Comic Brendan Grace Diagnosed With Cancer

Irish comedian Brendan Grace, who played obnoxious priest Father Fintan Stack in sitcom Father Ted, has been diagnosed with lung cancer and is in a hospital in Ireland.

News: Pat Laffan Who Played Father Ted's Pat Mustard Has Died

Pat Laffan, who played milkman Pat Mustard in Father Ted has died.

He was 79 and in a long career on stage and screen also appeared in the 1993 film The Snapper.

His agent released a statement: “It is with tremendous sadness that we here at the Lisa Richards Agency can confirm Pat Laffan’s passing today...All here will remember him first and foremost as our friend and mentor and we will miss him terribly. We send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.”

News: Lovely Father Ted Musical In The Pipeline

A musical version of the classic sitcom Father Ted is in the pipeline, written by the original writers Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews.

Graham Linehan confirmed the news on Twitter: "‘Pope Ted—The Father Ted Musical’ written by Arthur Mathews and myself, music by Neil Hannon, is almost written. I just thought you’d like to know. THIS IS NOT A DRILL!"

News: The Farce Awakens – The Star Wars And Father Ted Crossover

Fans of Father Ted who have seen the new Star Wars film have been commenting on a certain similarity.

We cannot say too much without giving spoilers away, but, as the Guardian reports today, there is a moment in The Force Awakens which evokes the opening credits of the classic sitcom when the camera swoops down on the characters on Craggy Island. 

The sitcom sequence was filmed over Inisheer, part of the Aran Islands, while the film sequence was filmed on Skellig Island in County Kerry.

News: Tedfest comes to London & Edinburgh

Tedfest, the annual celebration of all things Father Ted-related, will be returning to London this summer for the second year, and there will also be an event in Edinburgh. This is in addition to the annual event in February in Ireland, which has been running since 2004.
