Helen Bauer: Little Miss Baby Angel Face
2019’s Best Newcomer nominee Helen Bauer has announced her first UK tour starting on Wednesday 28th September at the Edinburgh Stand culminating with five nights at London’s Soho Theatre from Tuesday1st – Saturday 5th November. This follows a month long run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival’s Pleasance Courtyard.
I can actually say I saw Helen Bauer do a show in flesh in the last year, which is something I can't say about many stand-ups. She appeared at an open air comedy gig at Lauderdale House in Highgate, North London between lockdowns. Not a drive-in, but a lovely, socially distanced gig where fans sat in designated squares on a lawn. It wasn't quite the future of comedy – it wasn't sweaty enough for a start - but it certainly worked.
The main feeling was one of relief. And joy. And delight. And, bloody hell, this Coke is expensive, but who cares? And other positive things. On Friday night Lauderdale House in Highgate had the honour of what they claimed to be London's first post-lockdown socially distanced stand-up gig that isn't a drive-in. 90 people gathered on their tea lawn in designated squares and on a few benches and enjoyed an almost transcendental night of comedy.
Stand-ups Helen Bauer, Adam Rowe, Maisie Adam, Jonny Pelham, Harriet Kemsley and Sunil Patel are the stars of the latest Nationwide ad campaign, Pay Day Save Day. The major advertising campaign was created by organising and filming a stand-up comedy night where the comedians took the theme of ‘savings’ and put their own personal spin on it in front of a live audience.
