Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 2022 Results

The Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year Final has taken place at the Y Theatre as part of this year's Leicester Comedy Festival.

Eight acts chosen by the comedy industry competed for the prestigious trophy. Previous winners include Kate Lucas (2014), Romesh Ranganathan (2013), Josh Widdicombe (2010), Rhod Gilbert (2003), Jason Manford (2000) and Johnny Vegas (1997). And this year's winner is Firuz Ozari.

Finalists Revealed For Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year

The prestigious Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year competition returns for 2022 on Saturday 19th February at The Y Theatre in Leicester.  Eight of the best up-and-coming acts in the country will battle it out for the crown after performing their best seven minutes in front of an esteemed comedy industry panel and a live audience at Leicester Comedy Festival. Each finalist had been selected by top comedy promoters from across the UK and earmarked as ones to watch in the future.

Leicester Comedy Festival is the UK’s longest running and biggest comedy festival. Since 1994 it has been bringing the best of live comedy to the heart of Leicester, the wider Leicestershire community and comedy fans from across the UK. In 2021 the Festival moved online to allow audiences access to live comedy during lockdown and produced over 1600 hours of online entertainment.

Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year – Results

The winner of Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 2021 has been announced as Nina Gilligan.  The event, the first national comedy competition to have taken place this year, took place in front of a live, socially distanced audience at The Y Theatre, Leicester.  8 comedians from across the UK took part, after being nominated by respected comedy promoters from around the country.  The runner up Union Jack Radio award was presented to Joseph Emslie.  The competition has taken place each February,

Leicester Comedy Festival To Open Permanent Venue

Big Difference, the registered charity behind the annual Leicester Comedy Festival, have announced they are taking on the lease of the Leicester based venue previously known as The Cookie, and will be promoting live shows throughout the year.  The venue, which will be known as The Big Difference when it reopens later this year, has become known as a key location as part of the February festival, but is also known for hosting music gigs and other live entertainment since it opened in 2013.  Over the yea

News: Leicester Comedy Festival Attracts International Audience

Leicester Comedy Festival, the first UK comedy festival to take place this year, closed yesterday with organisers celebrating its success, having sold over 20,000 tickets to comedy lovers around the world.  Tickets were sold to people living in Australia, the USA, Sweden, Cyprus, Belgium, Belfast and Berlin, as well as across the UK.

News: Online Leicester Comedy Festival Launches

This year's Leicester Comedy Festival – going online for the first time – launches tonight.

Leicester Comedy Festival started in 1994 with 40 events programmed into 23 venues over 7 days throughout Leicestershire. In 1994 it attracted an audience of 5,000. This year adjusted for Covid constraints the Festival will be livestreamed and will feature over 300 performances from 100+ comedians.

News: Leicester Comedy Festival Confirms 2021 Shows

Big Difference Company, the charity that has produced Leicester Comedy Festival every February since 1994, and The UK Kids’ Comedy Festival since 2019, has announced that both festivals will be returning in 2021, running from the 3-21 February, with special measures in place to comply with current government COVID-19 Secure guidelines.
