Leicester
The Leicester Comedy Festival’s Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year Competition has been running 25 years (this year's final is on Feb 23) and has featured future stars including Johnny Vegas and Jason Manford. The latter looked terrifyingly young in a clip of archive footage at the start of an epic evening featuring previous acts. The gig featured so many winners and finalists it felt like it lasted a quarter of a century too. But in a Good Way.
National digital radio station Union JACK has signed up as one of the sponsors of the forthcoming Leicester Comedy Festival, with the sponsorship delivering live, on-air broadcasts from some of the festival’s greatest occasions.
The final of the 2018 Leicester Mercury Comedian Of the Year has taken place at the Y Theatre as part of the Leicester Comedy Festival.
The winner is Jack Gleadow. Rosie Jones was in 2nd place and 3rd place went to Radu Isac.
Gleadow has previously won the Great Yorkshire Fringe New Comedian of the Year and The Amused Moose National New Comic Award Final.
The submission process has opened for acts, promoters and venues wanting to submit shows and events for Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival 2016. The festival runs from 3-21 February and organisers expect over 600 events to be submitted, with over 100,000 people attending the festival. The submission deadline is Thursday 1st October 2015.
