Mock The Week
I can't confirm if it is definitely a first for Mock The Week but one of the stand-ups in tonight's line-up, Catherine Bohart, made the point on Twitter that that there are "Two redheads on one team??!! Living my fantasy tonight on @MockTheWeek."
Dara O Briain and Hugh Dennis (pictured) kick off 2021 with a look back on the last seven days on Mock The Week in the company of guests Ed Gamble, Ed Byrne, Maisie Adam, Rhys James and Ria Lina.
OK, we know that O Briain and Dennis have been around for yonks – and Ed Byrne too – but Mock The Week is very good at giving newer comedians a break.
Ed Gamble is pretty well established now and Rhys James is also a smart, fresh stand-up, who is also very good on Twitter.
Mock the Week will return to BBC Two at 10pm on Thursday 22nd October 2020.
The series will run until February 2nd 2021, with a short break in December between episodes airing on 10th December 2020 and January 14th 2021.
The news was announced with the publicists issuing the folliwing statement:
The guests have been announced for the new series of Mock The Week. The two Eds - Gamble and Byrne - return alongside Tom Allen, Angela Barnes, Kerry Godliman, Rhys James, Milton Jones and Felicity Ward plus newcomers Maisie Adam, Olga Koch, Sophie Duker, Eshaan Akbar, Rosie Jones and Mark Simmons.
Mock The Week has announced its return in its own inimitable style.
"After an exhausting summit with the heads of 27 channels, Mock the Week has agreed to delay its eighteenth series until late May. As up to four protesters took to the streets of central London and at least five more deluged social media with their views, BBC Two bosses have continued to insist that the first episode has to be ready to broadcast by the deadline or risk going out with no jokes.
Mock the Week will return for its seventeenth series on BBC Two next month. To mark the momentous occasion series regulars, host Dara O Briain and panellist Hugh Dennis, adopted a ministerial power stance (see picture)
New names lined up to appear on the long-running comedy series include Darren Harriott, Suzi Ruffell, London Hughes, Desiree Burch, Rachel Parris, Geoff Norcott and Icelandic stand-up star Ari Eldjarn.
Mock The Week is to return to BBC2 as the polls close on General Election night at 10pm on June 8.
This will be the show's sixteenth series in twelve years. Among the names lined up to appear alongside regular host Dara O Briain, Hugh Dennis and co are Ed Byrne, Sara Pascoe, James Acaster, Ed Gamble, Angela Barnes, Milton Jones, Nish Kumar and Zoe Lyons plus newer names Tom Allen, Tez Ilyas, Kerry Godliman and Felicity Ward.
BBC2 postponed last night's edition of Mock The Week that was due to be broadcast at 10pm.
The decision was taken to postpone the pre-recorded edition of the comedy show because of the death of MP Jo Cox and replace it with an edition of QI.
Posting the news on Twitter, the programme's host Dara O'Briain wrote: "Understandably, in light of today's events, there will be no Mock The Week tonight. We recorded the show on Tuesday; it may be shown later."
Stand-up comedian Gary Delaney has extended the 2014 UK tour of his latest show Purist, adding further dates this autumn.
The master of the pithy one-line gag is a regular on BBC2’s Mock The Week and BBC 5 Live’s 7 Day Saturday. He is also a double Sony Award Winner and Chortle Award Nominee.
Delaney says that most shows don’t contain enough jokes and he is trying singlehandedly to redress the balance.
