Inside
BBC Two is set to air a documentary telling the story of acclaimed anthology series Inside No 9. The programme is part of the newly announced BBC Christmas schedules.
The door may have closed on Inside No.9, but there’s still time to venture behind the scenes. This documentary tells the story of one of TV’s darkest and most celebrated comedies, featuring cast interviews and extensive candid moments with creators Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton.
Is this a clue to what happens in the final-ever episode of Inside No. 9 which airs on Wednesday, June 12 at 10pm on BBC Two?
Today's Cryptic Crossword in The Guardian has been set by Sphinx, which just happens to be the nickname used by Steve Pemberton when he sets crosswords.
This would not be the first time that the Guardian's crossword has been linked to the award-winning anthology series. The episode Riddle of the Sphinx also tied in with a Guardian crossword...
After a number of contemporary episodes in this series and one with a futuristic dystopian vibe, Curse of the Ninth is more of a period piece, based around the idea – dunno if true or not – that great composers had a habit of snuffing it after completing their ninth work. If it is a 'true' myth then it's ideal for this classic show, which is about to snuff it too after the final episode of their ninth series next week.
I haven't been reviewing this series of Inside No 9 for a number of reasons. Firstly it's been so hard to write about it without spoilers that ruin the fun for those who read reviews before watching it on catch-up. But secondly I didn't want to committ to writing up each episode of the final series only to say that I was disappointed by them.
A new trailer has been released in the run-up to the final series of Inside No 9.
I've spent much of the last week reading different theories about last week's sensational Inside No 9, 3By3, which replaced the advertised edition set on a bus, Hold On Tight!. Was the daughter psychic? AI? Reece Shearsmith in a mask? When will Hold On Tight! be on? Was it ever made? Were they inspired to do this excellent piece of rug-pulling by their fans who have been asking for a bus-based episode for years?
Warning - review below is for people who have seen the episode as it does contain a spoiler.
It's that time again when the challenge is to write about an episode of Inside No 9 without giving away any spoilers. The Bones of St Nicholas is a Christmas one-off, although a recent interview with co-creators and co-stars Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton suggests that it is part of the forthcoming eighth series, which has been filmed, but no transmission date has been announced.
Here's the first look at the poster for the Inside No. 9 Christmas Special, The Bones of St Nicholas. The illustration is by Graham Humphreys.
Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith return with a special festive film from their award-winning anthology series Inside No. 9. Joined by guest stars Shobna Gulati and Simon Callow, they serve up a disturbingly spooky Christmas story set in a mysterious church.
